Bobby Shmurda Countdown Website Is Fake — But A Prison Release Still May Happen

Written by on July 24, 2020

After a website alleging to belong to Bobby Shmurda began a countdown to August 4, 2020, fans began speculating the incarcerated Brooklyn rapper was secretly revealing an updated prison release date. The site has since been updated to promote an unrelated mental health app, confirming someone not affiliated with Shmurda or his team simply purchased the domain name BobbyShmurda.com.

However, a look into the Brooklyn native’s records show it may not have been a complete false alarm

Both Shmurda and Rowdy Rebel’s inmate records at Clinton Correctional Facility reflect an unspecified August 2020 date for their next parole hearing, both of which are listed as “INITIAL RELEASE APPEARANCE.” According to legal websites, this is where both rappers will be evaluated by the board to determine whether they meet the requirements to be released on the ‘Earliest Release Date’ (ERD) they’re eligible for.

Shmurda currently has an ERD of December 11, 2020, while Rowdy has December 15. However, the inmate documents do note “under certain circumstances” the prisoner may be released before their ERD.

In October 2018, Shmurda’s mother Leslie Pollard confirmed her son’s current ERD with a photo caption: “One of those mornings but the time is ticking 25 months he will be here soon.”
